CZECH REPUBLIC
FROM THE HEART
    Welcome from Prague.

The following are my lines, my early winter contribution, on Christian
Meditation here in the country, the Czech Republic. It is my meditation on
meditation. In other words, it is my poor meditation on the subject matter
that has become rich in all its aspirations.

It is early after Christmas and only a couple of hours before the end of
the old and the beginning of the new year. The snow lies everywhere. Its
virgin colour is offering its innocent dreams to decipher. The sun is
hiding behind the clouds. It is visible, yet its beauty is not clear. It is a
typical wintry Czech sky, promising to reign for many long days to come:
the sun veiled, yet always present; the snow too deep to uncover the
    warmth of its shroud.

This metaphor can be said not only about a winter day somewhere in
Bohemia but it can be applied to the Christian meditation here in the
    country as well.

Our meditation group has been together for more than one year. It is a
small group. There were people who came and went. However, the core
of the group, about six people now, meets every Wednesday at 7.30 pm
in a small room, which serves as a library, in our church and Augustinian
monastery in Prague’s Lesser Town. It is rather cold place: no luxury
and comfort anywhere to be found. If you want to read more about the
monastery, you can open www.augustiniani.cz, also in English.

In the past few weeks, the monastery has been under reconstruction
and when it is finished sometime in the springtime, we should have our
own room for our meditation sessions. I do trust this modest wish will
come true. It is necessary for our group and other activities to thrive and
    move on.

Since December 2005, I have been translating Father Laurence’s Pearl
of Great Price book into Czech. This book should be translated and
published in the second half of 2006. I have also managed to secure the
publication of John Main’s Word Into Silence book into Czech with a local
publishing house. These two books should be very helpful in our further
activities of Christian Meditation in the country.

There are a lot of very good books published here in the Czech Republic
but only one so far with the Christian Meditation topic, John Main’s
Moment of Christ. However, there are no meditation groups in the
country that are actively involved in meditation in the light of John Main’s
message. Well, at least I am not aware of any such group.

So it is like the wintry day hovering over the country. We know the light is
there, the sun is shining, yet it is still cloudy and cold. It is about time to
start listening to the silent change of the weather forecast – in faith and
    stillness and perseverance.

Greetings to you all from Prague.
