FROM THE HEART
    The number of meditators in Fiji continues to grow steadily if slowly.  At a
    recent Board Meeting, which meets three times a year, plans were made for
    this year. There will be three days of retreat in English and Fijian in the two
    main towns. In July there will be a School for Teachers for the formation of
    new leaders. A special effort is being made to reach out to the priests of the
    diocese to become meditators and also to encourage their parishioners to
    join a meditation group.

    During the last few months a concerted effort has been made to spread the
    teaching through the Catechist Training School where all the trainees
    (mostly married men) are now meditators. When they return to their villages
    in the rural areas they will be able to pass on the teaching to their people.

    In response to a request a group of lay meditators has volunteered to go
    soon to a remote island to pass on the way of Christian Meditation to the
    people of a large Catholic village. This year a priest staff member at the
    regional seminary will be starting a new meditation group among the
    diocesan seminarians. For the last twelve years a group of religious at the
    same seminary have been meeting as a mediation group each week.
