    Christian Meditation Retreat 18-20 August 2006, Hong Kong

    This was not an ordinary retreat; this was a retreat which brought to me
    peace, joy, awakening.

    First of all, internal peace is what I could experience - something that
    Christian Meditation could help me attain under His Mercy, Grace and
    Love… Fr Laurence simply radiates peace. Fr Laurence is “peace“
    himself. His sense of unhurriedness and serenity soon became
    contagious to the people around him.

    Secondly, most people (including myself) went to the retreat with the
    usual expectation of solemn, serious-looking faces. Did this logical
    consequence materialize? No! Great joy could be found in most of the
    participants.  The subjects covered were no doubt solemn and serious,
    but Fr Laurence addressed the serious subjects with such light-
    heartedness, (we could almost call it playfulness) that most retreatants
    hardly felt they were burdened or taught… Fr Laurence is never at the
    loss of stimulating stories and good sense of humor.  Even
    embarrassing question from the hall could be turned into a roar of
    laughter!

    Thirdly, as Fr Laurence took us thru’ the meditation and conference
    sessions, I was hit by a mild case of intellectual shock, hence
    awakening. What I used to treasure as my own belief systems are now
    on the rock.  I had to give way to the new concept, such as:

    (a) Prayer is not about getting things from God;   it is about being with
    God and to be like God;

    (b) We know God by love (His Love), not by thoughts;

    (c) Spiritual journey - How could I get over this mysterious journey of
    wound healing based on my traditional conscious analysis, not to
    mention the next important level of breaking through the wall of ego,
    which could take me to a wonderful state of “Joy of Being “;

    (d) The Greek words for love are really a nice dessert for me; the three
    words which constitute love (in Greek) are Eros, Philia and Agape’. My
    early misconception completely dissolved into nothingness. No longer
    do I worry about beautiful women’s attraction (Eros) now ; not only it is
    permissible but there are adequate back-up at the next level (Philia)
    which is to wish well, to be honest , and to be a good company in the
    joint spiritual journey! The next level ( Agape’) wraps everything into
    perfection  -  God’s Love .
