FROM THE HEART
"Learning to meditate has been the most important teaching of my life and
I am very grateful to Father John Main and Father Laurence Freeman, my
    teachers.

I was educated by the Benedictine nuns in Mexico City so when I found the
Benedictines in Montreal in 1981, it felt like home.  One of the things that I
admire of the Benedictines is that they are tolerant and open-minded, non-
    judgemental, excellent listeners and joyful.

I was not happy about the way I perceived and practiced the Catholic
religion. As I expected my first son in the Summer of 1981, I felt the need to
deepen my relationship and understanding of God.  I realized that the God I
made was an external one, that needed to be pleased and apeaced.

Learning to meditate changed my relationship with God and it is hard to
explain how this happen.  It is like when you like a song and do not know
the words very well, you know how it goes but cannot sing it.

What I know - and it is the greatest lesson of my life - is that God does not
only love me, but  he also likes me.  As a result, I fully trust Him.  When my
father passed away in 2004, I was surprised to see that his death brought
me a deep joy, I did not see his death as a loss, God gave me the total
certainty that my dad is with Him.

Life is a constant process of dettachment.  The new born baby has to let go
of the comfort of the womb in order to adapt to his new stage of life.  We go
through life letting go the stages of growth, the people that walk with us,
the lessons learned, the situations we fabricate, our minds and our
bodies.  We even have to let go of our idea of God.  This is a natural
    process.

But the question is, how can we adapt to the changes that life unevitable
    brings us, including death?

When we make the time to meditate, to be in the presence of God, we
center totally in His reality.  We get prepared to accept these changes as
we expand our perspective.  When our perspective broadens, we learn
that we cannot get God.  It is like entering into the music without knowing
    how to sing.

I have learned that I do not need to ask God for anything - He is there before
the need.  There is a sacred word that I repeat during my meditation - and
another word that I carry in my day: ¨Gracias¨".
