UGANDA
FROM THE HEART
Our  Meditation-Group  could  look  like  a  paradox:  a little island in a
land-locked country: Uganda. However, first impressions can deceive.
Indeed we are feeling ourselves more and more surrounded by an invisible
Web, that in  Africa  only  extends over 25 countries and existed long
before the WWW was invented. It is the Web of Silence, which brings us
together beyond any e-mail or other message we may send to each other.
We are convinced that it is  this  very  Web that can give our words a
special taste and convey much more than what we could ever expect.

When  we  started  the  group  on  the  1st  of  October 2005, we entrusted
ourselves  to  the  Saint  of  the  day,  St  Thérèse  of  Lisieux, a great
contemplative woman, who -from the enclosure of her Carmel in France -
could feel  in  contact  with people up the furthest corners of the world. We
are about  fifteen  members  and  a  good  number  of  them meet every
Saturday afternoon  for  some  sharing  of  experiences, followed by a
short input / discussion  on a topic related to Christian Meditation and we
conclude with a period of meditation together. There is a good balance
between the number of  men  and  women, aged between 20 and 60, and
we are from very different walks  of  life.  Until  some  months ago we had
a very young member in our group:  Immaculate.  Indeed  she  was  coming
every week in the womb of her mother,  Esther!  Then  on the 4th of March
2006 she came to light, and now she  is  temporarily at home, as to allow a
bit of silence and stillness to her  mother when she joins us. We hope,
however, to welcome her back rather soon!

Perhaps  the fact that the place where we meet is just a few miles from
the Equator-line  could  be a powerful reminder for all of us -not only for
the meditators  in Uganda- namely, we are called to move towards the
centre and remain  there, where the true self is and be aware of what  St
Brigit wrote:  "Between our true self and God there is no between".
